Earth History

The Earth History Resources CD-ROM helps students explore geologic processes. Land and Rock formations across the U.S. are available for exploration. With full screen, user-controlled 360 degree panoramic movies, one gets a real sense of different regions of the U.S., especially the Grand Canyon. Students take virtual field trips on the Bright Angel Trail, where they make observations and collect data to use in the identification of the different layers of the Grand Canyon. In the Geology Lab, animations illustrate the processes of deposition and erosion, faulting and folding, volcanoes and the rock cycle. A trip in the time machine conveys the immensity of time involved in geologic processes compared to human existence by allowing users to travel rapidly but proportionally to significant moments in Earth's history. This CD-ROM is intimately tied to the FOSS Earth History Middle School module.
